Location Reports
We have decided to have the setting in our school drama
room. We decided to set it here as it’s the most realistic setting we can get
for our opening as we need a more or less empty room with only a bed and some
cabinets and our ballerina box. If we are allowed to use the lights I would
like to use more pale white filters, or anything dull. It is safe here and very
minimal chance of risk. Before using the drama room we had to ask permission
from the head of drama, to make sure that she is okay with us using her room.
We liked the fact that there was a lot of free space meant
that we were able to put in any set we wanted and are able to design it however
we wanted. This enabled us to make it the way we wanted it to be. We could put
in a bed and also a cabinet then create the scenery of the room by putting up posters
and other personalised items for Marianne.
After looking around the internet for some inspiration, we
found this photo where the room manages to look very cluttered, yet bare at the
same time. We thought this would create a parallel to her mind state. We wanted
to take some ideas by hanging up pictures and posters of ballet and also other deep
things to state that she has depression, which would make the audience think
that this is because of the bullying. We liked
the idea of using chiaroscuro in order to capture particular images. The contrast
of the dark and light will help build the tension needed in this scene.
